MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers today announced the winners of the 2019 Robin Yount Performance Awards, which are presented annually to the organization’s top Minor League performers. Outfielder Trent Grisham has earned Player of the Year honors while left-hander Aaron Ashby has been named Pitcher of the Year.

“Trent and Aaron impressed with strong performances all season long,” said Brewers Farm Director Tom Flanagan. “Trent rocketed through two levels of the Minor League system before making his Major League debut on August 1. He continued to display tremendous strike zone discipline, while showcasing his ability to drive the ball. It was truly a breakout year for Trent.

“Aaron was chosen for the award among a number of worthy candidates. He really progressed in his first full professional season, showing the ability to miss bats. His advanced feel to pitch, along with the quality of his pitch repertoire will continue to help him find success as he progresses through the system.”

Grisham, 22, split the Minor League season between the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers and Triple-A San Antonio Missions before earning a promotion to the Major League roster. In 97 games between the two affiliates, he batted .300 (111-for-370) with 71 runs, 22 doubles, 6 triples, 26 home runs, 71 RBI, 67 walks, a .407 on-base percentage (OBP) and a 1.010 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS). He led all Brewers Minor Leaguers in home runs.

Grisham racked up awards throughout the season, beginning with being named Southern League Player of the Week for the period of May 27 to June 2 – the first weekly honor of his career. He would earn a spot on the Southern League midseason All-Star team prior to his promotion to Triple-A on June 20, where he batted .381 (51-for-134) with 37 runs, 13 home runs – matching his total from 63 games at Double-A – 30 RBI and a 1.247 OPS in 34 games.

The Brewers’ first-round selection (#15 overall) from the 2015 First-Year Player Draft also took home Brewers Minor League Player of the Month honors in each of his last three months in the minors – from May to July – before being selected to the Major League roster on August 1.

Ashby, 21, split his Minor League campaign between the Low-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and High-A Carolina Mudcats, striking out 25.5% of batters faced while posting a 3.50 ERA. He racked up 135 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .222 (101-for-454) batting average in 24 appearances (23 starts).

He was named Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Month in May, during which he recorded a 2.37 ERA (30.1ip, 8er) in 5 starts with Wisconsin. Ashby had also earned a spot on the Midwest League midseason All-Star team and led the Midwest League in strikeouts (80) at the time of his promotion to Carolina on June 8.

Ashby made a statement in his first two starts with the Mudcats, combining to strike out 16 and allow just 5 hits and walk 3 over 14.1 scoreless innings of work. The Brewers’ fourth-round selection from the 2018 First-Year Player Draft finished the latter part of his 2019 campaign with a 3.46 ERA (65ip, 25er) in 13 starts with Carolina.

Grisham and Ashby will be presented with their awards in a pregame ceremony this Saturday, September 21.
