Brewers announce 2023 Player Development staff

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers today announced their player development staff for the 2023 season, including Minor League managers and coaches for their seven affiliates.

After 16 seasons as field coordinator, Charlie Greene has been promoted to assistant director of player development. In addition to his new role, he will continue to serve as the roving catching instructor for a 19th consecutive season.

Spencer Allen takes over as field coordinator after joining the organization in 2022 as assistant field coordinator. In addition to managing the rookie Arizona Brewers, Rafael Neda will serve as assistant field coordinator.

Nick Childs enters his first season as pitching coordinator after spending the past three seasons as a pitching coach in the organization, including the past two at Double-A Biloxi (2021-22). Matt Erickson returns to player development for 2023 as a roving infield instructor after spending last season on the Major League coaching staff. 

Former Brewers right-handed pitcher Josh Lindblom joins the staff as an assistant in player development following his retirement as a player in January.

Below are the changes to affiliate coaching staffs for 2023, including their previous role:

  • Liu Rodríguez to Triple-A Nashville as a coach (coach at Class-A Wisconsin) 
  • Patrick McGuff to Triple-A Nashville as bullpen coach (development coach at Class-A Wisconsin)
  • Will Schierholz to Double-A Biloxi as pitching coach (pitching coach at Class-A Wisconsin)
  • Nick Stanley to Double-A Biloxi as bench coach (hitting coach at Class-A Wisconsin)
  • Josh Spence to bullpen coach at Double-A Biloxi (pitching coach for ACL Brewers Blue)
  • Drew Thomas to Class-A Wisconsin as pitching coach (pitching coach at Class-A Carolina)
  • Ken Joyce to Class-A Wisconsin as hitting coach (hitting coach at Class-A Carolina)
  • David Tufo to Class-A Wisconsin as bench coach (manager of ACL Brewers Gold)
  • Michael O’Neal to Class-A Carolina as pitching coach (coach at Double-A Biloxi)
  • J.J. Reimer to Class-A Carolina as hitting coach (development coach at Double-A Biloxi)
  • José García to hitting coach with DSL Brewers (development coach for ACL Brewers Blue)
