Brewers name Minor League Players and Pitchers of the Month for July

Turang and Avina Earn Players of the Month; Bennett and Mogollon Named Pitchers of the Month

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have named infielder Brice Turang and outfielder Jace Avina as their Minor League Players of the Month for July and left-handers Nick Bennett and Osbriel Mogollon as Minor League Pitchers of the Month.
 
Turang, 22, batted .326/.438/.535 with 7 doubles, a triple, 3 HR, 14 RBI, 27 runs and 8 stolen bases in 23 games for Triple-A Nashville in July. He hit safely in 21 of 23 games, including the last 11 games of the month in which he batted .350 (14-for-40) with 4 doubles, 2 HR, 6 RBI and 4 stolen bases. 
 
Selected in the first round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, Turang led the International League in runs (27) and ranked among leaders in walks (3rd, 18), stolen bases (T3rd, 8), hits (T6th, 28) and on-base percentage (8th, .438).
 
Avina, 19, batted .302/.439/.717 with 2 doubles, a triple, 6 HR and 16 RBI in 16 games with ACL Brewers Blue in July. He began the month by going 4-for-5 with a double and a home run against the ACL White Sox on July 1 and blasted a pair of homers in a 3-for-4 effort on July 22 against the ACL Reds.
 
A 14th-round selection in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, Avina tied for the Arizona Complex League lead in RBI in July (16) and ranked among leaders in HR (2nd, 6), extra-base hits (T4th, 9) and total bases (T6th, 38).
 
Bennett, 24, went 2-1 with a 1.88 ERA (24ip, 5er) and 27 strikeouts with just 7 walks in 4 starts for Double-A Biloxi in July. He allowed just 3 hits and a walk with 9 strikeouts over 6.0 scoreless innings on July 7 at Montgomery and surrendered an unearned run on 2 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts over 7.0 innings on July 22 vs. Pensacola.
 
He concluded the month with 6.0 strong innings against Montgomery on July 28, allowing 1 run on 5 hits with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts.
 
Selected in the sixth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, Bennett ranked among Southern League leaders in ERA (2nd, 1.88), WHIP (2nd, 1.04), strikeouts (T3rd, 27), opponent batting average (4th, .205) and innings (6th, 24.0) in July.
 
Mogollon, 18, went 1-0 with a 0.55 ERA (16.1ip, 1er), 7 walks, 20 strikeouts and a .115 opponent batting average (6-for-52) in 4 starts for DSL Brewers 1 in July.
 
Signed as a non-drafted free agent in January, Mogollon tossed 5.0 scoreless and hitless innings allowing a walk with 8 strikeouts on July 5 at DSL Cubs Blue. He worked 4.0 scoreless frames allowing a hit with a walk and 4 strikeouts on July 26 at DSL Phillies White.
