Brewers Name Minor League Players and Pitchers of the Month for August

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have named outfielder Jace Avina as Minor League Player of the Month and left-handed pitcher Robert Gasser as Minor League Pitcher of the Month for August.
 
The Brewers also named infielder/outfielder Pedro Ibarguen as the organization’s Complex League Player of the Month and right-handed pitcher Daniel Corniel as Complex League Pitcher of the Month.
 
Avina, 20, batted .333 (24-for-72) with 8 doubles, 4 HR, 15 RBI and 15 runs in 23 games with Class-A Carolina, including a .484 OBP/.611 SLG/1.095 OPS.
 
Selected in the 14th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, Avina led the Carolina League in OPS (1.095) in August and ranked among leaders in on-base percentage (2nd, .484), doubles (T3rd, 8), extra-base hits (T3rd, 12), slugging percentage (4th, .611), batting average (T9th, .333) and total bases (T9th, 44).
 
Gasser, 24, went 4-0 with a 2.63 ERA (24ip, 7er) in 4 starts for Triple-A Nashville in August. The left-hander struck out 33 batters and issued just 5 walks, posting a 0.96 WHIP with a .207 opponent batting average (18-for-87).
 
His 4 wins tied for the International League lead while he ranked among leaders in WHIP (2nd, 0.96), strikeouts (4th, 33), ERA (T4th, 2.63) and opponent batting average (T7th, .207).
 
Gasser was also named the organization’s Minor League Co-Pitcher of the Month for June.
 
Ibarguen, 17, hit .341 (15-for-44) with 3 doubles, a triple, 3 HR, 14 RBI and 12 runs over 14 games in August for Rookie DSL Brewers 2. He carried a .436 OBP/.659 SLG/1.095 OPS, drawing 7 walks with just 5 strikeouts in 55 plate appearances for the month.  
 
Signed a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela last January, Ibarguen ranked among Dominican Summer League leaders for August in OPS (6th, 1.095), RBI (T7th, 14), slugging percentage (8th, .659) and total bases (T8th, 29).
 
Corniel went 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA (11ip, 4er) and 16 strikeouts over 3 appearances/2 starts for the Rookie ACL Brewers in August. He was named Arizona Complex League Pitcher of the Week for Aug. 14-20 after tossing 5.0 scoreless innings on just 2 hits and a walk with 8 strikeouts on Aug. 14 vs. the ACL Reds.
 
The 19-year-old was signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela in 2022.
