September 3rd, 2025

Second baseman Brice Turang of the Milwaukee Brewers has been voted the National League Player of the Month presented by Chevrolet for August, and catcher Shea Langeliers of the Athletics has been voted the American League Player of the Month presented by Chevrolet for August. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.

Turang won his first career honor and is the first Brewer to win the award since his teammate Christian Yelich won in September 2018. He is Milwaukee’s first infielder to be honored since Prince Fielder in June 2011, and just the ninth player to be honored in franchise history, joining Ryan Braun (4x), Cecil Cooper (4x), Hall of Famer Robin Yount (3x), Fielder (2x), Jeromy Burnitz (1x), Hall of Famer Paul Molitor, Ben Oglivie and Yelich. Langeliers also won his first career award and is the second consecutive Athletic to be recognized following his rookie teammate Nick Kurtz, who won his first career award in July. The A’s are the first club to win the award in back-toback months with different players since Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt of the St. Louis Cardinals won the awards in April and May 2022, respectively. The A’s are the first AL club to do so since Yuli Gurriel and Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros were honored in July and August 2015, respectively. It is the third time the A’s have garnered multiple Player of the Month honors in a single season, joining 2001 (Jason Giambi – May, Jermaine Dye – August & Eric Chavez – September), and 1988 (Carney Lansford – May and Jose Canseco – September).

Brice Turang, Milwaukee Brewers (@bturang1)
The 25-year-old hit .343 (37-for-108) with 10 homers, 24 RBI, six doubles, a triple, nine walks, 23 runs scored, three stolen bases, a .694 slugging percentage and a .398 on-base percentage across 28 games.

The Corona, California native led the Majors in slugging, OPS (1.092) and total bases (75); tied for fourth in homers, hits and extra-base hits (17); ranked fifth in batting average; and tied for seventh in RBI and runs scored.

The 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove and Platinum Glove winner entered the month with seven home runs on the year, and his 10 longballs as a second baseman were the most in a single month since Marcus Semien slugged 12 homers in September 2021 for the Toronto Blue Jays. Of the 16 second basemen (22nd instance) with at least 10 homers in a single month, Turang is just the second player under the age of 26 to accomplish the feat, joining Rougned Odor, who hit 10 homers in July 2017 for the Texas Rangers.

The 21st overall pick in the 2018 Draft registered a 12-game hitting streak from August 18th-29th, tying the second longest-streak of his career. Turang became the first Brewer under the age of 26 with three separate hitting streaks of at least 12 games in a single season, with his August stretch joining a career-best 14-game streak from June 14th-July 2nd (G1) and a 12-game streak from March 27th-April 9th. During the August streak, he batted .421 (24-for-57) with a homer, 10 RBI, six doubles, four walks, 11 runs scored and a 1.031 OPS.

Turang became the 15th Brewer (19th occurrence) to record at least 10 home runs, 20 RBI and 30 hits in a calendar month, and just the third player to reach his totals of at least 10 home runs, 24 RBI and 37 hits, joining Braun in July 2007 (11 HR, 25 RBI & 38 H); and Cooper in July 1983 (10 HR, 39 RBI & 41 H).

The second baseman hit safely in all but four of his games in August, which included two appearances as a pinch-hitter. He hit a home run in four consecutive starts from August 8th-12th, drawing a walk with a pinch-hit opportunity on August 10th. He became the fourth Brewer (fifth occurrence) under the age of 25 with a home run in four consecutive games in which he had an at-bat and the first since Fielder from July 30-August 2, 2008. Turang recorded 11 multi-hit contests during the month, including a pair of three hits games on August 2nd at Washington and August 20th at Chicago (NL).

Shea Langeliers, Athletics (@langeliers23)
The 27-year-old hit .284 (31-for-109) with 11 homers, 22 RBI, eight doubles, four walks, 20 runs scored, a .661 slugging percentage, and a .307 on-base percentage across 25 games.

The Portland, Oregon native led the Majors in extra-base hits (19); ranked second in slugging and total bases (72), trailing only Turang; and ranked third in home runs.

Langeliers batted leadoff for the first time in his career on August 5th at Washington, hammering three home runs as part of a five-hit game, as he became the first player since 1900 to hit three homers in his first career game batting leadoff. He became just the second catcher with three homers out of the leadoff spot, joining Travis d’Arnaud’s three-homer performance for the Tampa Bay Rays on July 15, 2019. Along with Nick Kurtz’s six-hit, four-homer game on July 25th, it is the first time multiple players on a club registered a game with at least three home runs and five hits in a single season.

The ninth overall selection in the 2019 Draft (by ATL) launched 10 homers as a catcher during the month and went deep once as a designated hitter on August 15th. He became the second A’s player with at least 10 home runs in a single month as a catcher, joining Terry Steinbach, who had 10 homers in July 1996. Langeliers’ 25 homers as a catcher this season are third-most in franchise history, trailing his 27 longballs in 2024 and Steinbach’s 34 homers in 1996.

The Baylor University product has hit at least 20 home runs as a catcher in three consecutive seasons, becoming the only backstop in A’s history with multiple seasons of at least 20 homers. Since his debut in 2022, his 77 homers as a catcher are second-most in the Majors behind only Seattle’s Cal Raleigh (117 HR as C, 142 HR overall), who leads the Majors with 51 roundtrippers this season. Langeliers is batting .313 (51-for-163) with 17 homers, 34 RBI and a 1.047 OPS in 39 games since the All-Star Break, leading the Majors in extra-base hits (30) and total bases (115) during the stretch. Additionally, he ranks second in slugging (.706) and OPS; is tied for second in home runs; is tied for sixth in doubles and hits; ranks eighth in batting average; and ranks ninth in RBI since the Midsummer Classic.
