C Ryan Lavarnway invited to Major League camp

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Indians today announced the signing of free agent C RYAN LAVARNWAY (luh-VARN-way) to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League Spring Training camp.

Lavarnway, 33, is a veteran of 13 professional seasons after being selected by Boston in the sixth round of the 2008 MLB Draft out of Yale University. He made his Major League debut with the Red Sox in 2011 and spent seven seasons in the Red Sox organization, 2008-14. He appeared in 4 games with the AAA Columbus to conclude the 2019 season and spent the 2020 campaign between the Miami Marlins Alternate Site and Miami, appearing in five games (.364, 4-for-11).

The Woodland Hills, CA native is the club’s 16th non-roster invitee and 74th player currently allotted to the 2021 player pool.
