October 25th, 2019

Major League Baseball today announced the ceremonial & off-field activities for Game 3 of the 2019 World Series presented by YouTube TV. The 115th Fall Classic between the American League Champion Houston Astros and the National League Champion Washington Nationals continues tonight, Friday, Oct. 25, at Nationals Park with LIVE coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX, FOX Deportes and ESPN Radio. All games exclusively covered by FOX will be available to MLB.TV subscribers who are authenticated subscribers to the applicable network through a participating pay TV provider. ESPN Radio will provide live national coverage of all 2019 World Series games.

FALL CLASSIC LEGACY EVENT @ PAYNE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Prior to Game 3, MLB and the Washington Nationals hosted a service event at the ballfield located at Payne Elementary School in partnership with Capitol Hill Little League (CHLL), which includes activities such as netting upkeep, debris removal, the installation of bat and helmet racks, and other cosmetic repairs. Payne Elementary is located in the heart of the league’s boundary and has been one of the primary fields used for practices, weeknight and weekend games for the entire nine years the league has operated. During the school year, students use the field during regular school hours and aftercare programming. As part of the inaugural Fall Classic Legacy initiative for the 2019 World Series, MLB awarded the Washington Nationals with a $25,000 grant toward an enrichment project within their community. The Nationals then donated the grant to Capitol Hill Little League to be used for the beautification and enhancement to the Payne Elementary School ballfield, which was in need of major improvements. Capitol Hill Little League serves a growing community in the heart of Washington D.C., offering baseball and softball playing opportunities to nearly 700 kids, aged 5-16.

ROBERTO CLEMENTE AWARD: The winner of the 2019 Roberto Clemente Award will be acknowledged prior to Game 3, with an on-field trophy presentation featuring Luis Clemente, the son of late Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente.

PATRIOTIC PERFORMANCES: D.C. Washington, a National Anthem staple at Nationals Park, will perform the “Star Spangled Banner” prior to Game 3. “America The Beautiful” will be performed by the U.S. Army Chorus Quartet during pregame ceremonies prior to the National Anthem. “God Bless America” will be performed by four members of the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters in the middle of the 7th inning.

CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCH: Two members of the inaugural Washington Nationals team from 2005, Chad Cordero and Brian Schneider, will throw and catch the official ceremonial first pitch.

YOUTUBE TV PITCH: On behalf of MLB partner YouTube TV, legendary astronaut and crewmember of the Apollo 11 mission Dr. Col. Buzz Aldrin will throw a ceremonial pitch early-on in the pregame ceremonies. Aldrin appears in a YouTube TV World Series ad (titled, “Ball On The Moon”) that has been airing during the Fall Classic.

“PLAY BALL!”: The Honorable Mayor of Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser will yell “Play Ball!” prior to the game’s first pitch.

GAME BALL DELIVERY: Fort Belvoir Teen Center’s (an affiliate of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America) Collin Ross, 15, will deliver the game ball for Game 3. Collin is currently a High School Sophomore and a starting pitcher for Fort Belvoir Little League Nationals Senior Division. His favorite player is Max Scherzer.

BUDWEISER RESPONSIBLE FAN: MLB, Anheuser-Busch and Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management (TEAM) Coalition will host Linda Washington, the Nationals winner of the “Responsibility Has Its Rewards” sweepstakes, at Game 3 of the World Series. Washington, from Upper Marlboro, MD, was randomly selected after she pledged to be a “Responsible Fan.” One of more than 500,000 MLB fans who pledged to be Responsible Fans this year at ballparks, Washington won a pair of tickets to Game 3.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY DURING WORLD SERIES: MLB will continue to be sustainability-focused at its jewel events through the following environmentally responsible practices:

  • Local Green Teams will work with the host Club to walk through the aisles between innings to collect recyclables and raise awareness for what fans can do in their everyday lives to be more “green.”
  • All water and energy used at the ballparks during World Series will be offset through a partnership with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation
  • MLB will provide reusable water bottles and water filtration systems to broadcast crews with FOX and MLB Network working the World Series, eliminating the single use of thousands of plastic water bottles.

KULTURECITY REPRESENTED AT FALL CLASSIC CITIES: KultureCity will be at both Minute Maid Park and Nationals Park this World Series. KultureCity is the leading nonprofit that advocates for those with sensory challenges such as autism and post-traumatic stress disorder. A mobile sensory room will be on the concourse at both ballparks (Right Field Gate at Minute Maid Park and Section 109 at Nationals Park). KultureCity trained volunteers will be on-site to assist any guests and provide information on the organization. In addition, Sensory Bags filled with noise cancelling headphones, fidget tools and other sensory calming devices will be distributed.
