D-backs acquire Julio Frias from Marlins to complete trade

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired LHP Julio Frias from the Marlins as the player-to-be-named to complete the Aug. 31 trade in which they acquired LHP Caleb Smith and RHP Humberto Mejía for OF Starling Marte. Frias will be assigned to the 60-man roster.

Frias, 22, played the 2019 season at Short-Season A Batavia, and in 14 starts, he went 5-4 with a 2.83 ERA (22 ER in 70.0 IP), .231 opponent average, 1.21 WHIP and 73 strikeouts (9.39 K/9.0 IP).

Overall, he played 5 seasons in the Marlins system (2015-19) after signing on July 4, 2014. In 60 games (32 starts), he was 8-19 with a 4.28 ERA (93 ER in 195.1 IP), .261 opponent average and 184 strikeouts.
