D-backs award Caleb Roberts and Ricardo Yan with monthly honors

The Arizona Diamondbacks named Double-A Amarillo C Caleb Roberts and High-A Hillsboro RHP Ricardo Yan the organization’s Minor League Player- and Pitcher-of-the-Month for August.

CALEB ROBERTS

  • Hit .321 (26-for-81)/.966 OPS with 8 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 15 runs scored, 11 RBI and 14 walks in 20 games with the Sod Poodles.
  • Ranked among Texas League hitters in doubles (T-5th, 8) and OPS (10th, .966).
  • Owned a 7-game hitting streak from August 1-9 (.424 average; 3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 7 runs scored, 6 RBI and 2 walks.
  • Reached base safely in 18 of 20 games (26 H, 14 BB, 1 HBP).
  • Walked a career-high tying 4 times on August 12 @ Tulsa (also: May 31, 2023 vs. Springfield).
  • Hit .429 (3-for-7)/.929 OPS vs. lefties and .311 (23-for-74)/.970 OPS against righties.
  • Signed as the D-backs’ fifth-round selection in the 2021 Draft out of The University of North Carolina.

RICARDO YAN

  • Went 2-0 with a 35 ERA (1 ER in 25.2 IP), 39 strikeouts, a 0.66 WHIP and .098 opponent average (8-for-82) in 5 games (3 starts) between Low-A Visalia and Hillsboro.
  • Ranked among Minor League pitchers in average (1st, .098), ERA (2nd, 0.35), WHIP (2nd, 0.66) and strikeouts (T-5th, 39).
  • In 3 games (1 start) with Hillsboro, went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER in 12.2 IP), 21 strikeouts, .098 opponent average (4-for-41) and 0.87 WHIP.
  • In 2 starts with Visalia, went 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA (1 ER in 13.0 IP), 18 strikeouts, .098 opponent average (4-for-41) and 0.46 WHIP.
  • Boasted 13.68 strikeouts per 9.0 innings.
  • Named California League Pitcher of the Week for August 7-13 after tossing a career-high 7.0 innings with 1 run, 1 hit, 2 walks and 9 strikeouts in his start for Visalia @ Lake Elsinore.
  • Signed as a D-backs’ non-drafted free agent in 2021.
