D-backs lead MLB with lowest fan cost index for 12th consecutive year
“Perennial most affordable team continues its reign,” according to Team Marketing Report
PHOENIX – Chase Field will host its first game this Thursday and while there will not be fans in attendance, the Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks @LosDbacks) continued their streak of 12 consecutive years -- since 2009 -- with the lowest Fan Cost Index (FCI) in Major League Baseball, it was announced by Team Marketing Report.
The annual Fan Cost Index has been computed since 1991 and is a representative look at the costs for a family of four to attend an MLB game. Numbers were used from the original pricing for each team prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The D-backs finished at $144.50, almost $100 below the industry average of $242.02 and more than $15 below the next lowest team (Tampa Bay Rays - $169.88). The FCI is comprised of four average tickets, two beers, four soft drinks, four hot dogs, parking for one car and two adult-sized caps.
“While we are not yet able to bring fans back to Chase Field, we still take great pride that every year we provide the most affordable experience in Major League Baseball,” said D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall. “With so many economic challenges due to the pandemic, it is now more important than ever to maintain the value items and ticket prices when fans return.”
The D-backs have offered Value Item pricing on concessions and merchandise since 2007.
