Dodgers sign Hanser Alberto

LOS ANGELES –The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to terms with infielder Hanser Alberto on a one-year contract for $1.6 million with a club option for the 2023 season for $2 million with a $250,000 buyout. In order to make room on the roster, the Dodgers designated infielder Matt Beaty for assignment.

Alberto, 29, joins the Dodgers after spending last season with the Kansas City Royals. In 103 games with the Royals in 2021, he batted .270 (65-for-241) with 20 doubles, two homers and 24 RBI. The infielder has spent parts of six seasons in the Major Leagues, including stints with Texas (2015-16, 2018), Baltimore (2019-20) and Kansas City (2021), and has hit a combined .276 (322-for-1166) with 17 homers and 106 RBI. He had his best season in 2019, recording career-highs in BA (.305), hits (160), runs scored (62), homers (12) and RBI (51). The San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic native was originally signed by the Texas Rangers as an international free agent on October 23, 2009.

Beaty, 28, appeared in 120 games for the Dodgers last season, batting .270 with seven homers and 40 RBI. He has spent part of three seasons with the Dodgers since making his Major League debut in 2019, slashing a combined .262/.333/.425 with 18 homers and 91 RBI. The Tennessee native was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 12th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of Belmont University.
