SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Giants announced today that they have claimed IF Corban Joseph off waivers from Oakland. Joseph will report to the Major League club.

Joseph, 30, appeared in 11 games with Oakland after having his contract selected by the Athletics on August 14. In those 11 games, Joseph hit .189 (7-for-37) with two doubles, one homer and five RBI before being designated for assignment on September 1. He played nine games at second base and one at third base in his time with the A’s.

The left-handed hitting infielder began this season with triple-A Las Vegas in the A’s organization and batted .371 with 35 doubles, 13 homers, 73 RBI, 63 runs scored and 1.006 OPS in 97 games for the Aviators. With Las Vegas, Joseph saw action at both first base and second base.

He made his Major League debut with the New York Yankees in 2013 and played in two games before playing in 14 games with the Orioles in 2018. In 27 career Major League games, he’s hit .197 (12-for-61) with one homer and eight RBI.

Joseph was originally a fourth-round pick in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft by the New York Yankees. In 1,151 career minor league games, Joseph has hit .293 with 272 doubles, 38 triples, 93 home runs, 575 RBI and posted an .803 OPS.

To make room for Joseph on the 40-man roster, the Giants have placed IF Pablo Sandoval on the 60-day injured list with a right elbow sprain.
