GUARDIANS INVITE FOUR TO SPRING TRAINING

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the following transactions:

Signed free agents C CAM GALLAGHER, RHP MICHAEL KELLY, OF ROMAN QUINN and RHP TOUKI TOUSSAINT to Minor League contracts with invitations to Major League Spring Training™ camp.

Gallagher, 30, spent nearly the entirety of his professional career in the Kansas City Royals system since his 2011 second round MLB Draft selection, serving as KC’s primary backup catcher following his August 2017 debut. His Royals tenure concluded at the 2022 trade deadline (Aug. 2) with his acquisition by the San Diego Padres and subsequent waiver claim by Baltimore in September. He was granted free agency in November.

Kelly, 30, made his Major League debut last June with the Philadelphia Phillies in his 11th professional season following his supplemental first round selection (48th overall) by San Diego in the 2011 MLB Draft. He has spent time in the Padres, Orioles and Astros organizations and spent the 2019 season in the independent Atlantic League. Around his 4 outings with the Phillies (2.25) last season, the Boca Raton, FL native appeared in 47 games at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. 

Quinn, 29, has appeared in 222 Major League games with the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays since debuting with Philadelphia in Sept. 2016. The Port St. Joe, FL native spent 10 seasons in the Phillies organization, 2012-21, before splitting time between four organizations last season (MIA, PHI, KC, TB), appearing in a combined 44 ML games with TB and Philadelphia. He owns a career Minor League OPS of .771 and was an PHI organizational all-star in 2012 and 2014.

Toussaint (TOO-key TOO-sahnt), 26, was Arizona’s first round (16th overall) pick in the June 2014 MLB Draft and was acquired by Atlanta exactly one year after signing (6/20/2015), spending eight seasons (2015-22) in the Braves system, making his Major League debut in August of 2018. The Coral Springs, FL native went on to make 49 appearances (21 GS) with the Braves over the next four seasons (2018-21). He split 2022 between Triple-A Gwinnett (ATL) and the Los Angeles Angels organization following his July 4th acquisition by the Halos. He posted a 4.62 ERA in 8 games/2 starts for LA in August and September. For his ML career, he has struck out 181 batters in 170.1 innings and held batters to a .234 average against.
