KANSAS CITY, Mo. (August 18, 2020) – Royals pitcher Ian Kennedy and his wife, Allison, are excited to announce their new charity initiative, “K’s for a Cause.” During the 2020 season, Kennedy is donating $10,000 per strikeout to two organizations, Head for the Cure and Consider the Lily. Each organization will receive $5,000. Through August 18, Kennedy has pledged to donate a total of $130,000; $65,000 to each organization.
Head for the Cure raises awareness and funding to inspire hope for the community of brain cancer patients, their families, friends and caregivers, while celebrating their courage, spirit and energy. The charity strives to bring the community together, so no one feels they are fighting a brain tumor alone.
“On behalf of the entire Head for the Cure community, we are so grateful to Ian and Allison Kennedy for their incredible generosity and personal commitment to bring hope to brain tumor patients and caregivers in the Kansas City area and across the country,” said Matt Anthony, president and founder of Head for the Cure. “The Kennedys’ gift greatly enhances the Head for the Cure Foundation’s ability to fund important clinical research and education and advocacy programs, helping patients and caregivers navigate their journey with brain cancer.”
Consider the Lily is a charity that focuses on putting an end to human trafficking one person at the time, whether it be through prevention homes or rescuing children who are at risk of being sold in the Philippines. On a worldwide level, they seek to provide hope without the worry of tomorrow for the lost, deserted and enslaved.
“Consider the Lily is a rescue home for exploited and trafficked girls in Manila,” said Kim Hummel, who serves as the treasurer of the organization. “Allison and Ian Kennedy came to Manila in 2011 to visit our home and have been an intricate part ever since. Their passion for helping our girls break the chains of poverty and abuse is felt with their time, energy and resources given to the home over the years. We are so thankful for the Kennedy family.”
