Indians activate 3B José Ramírez from 10-day injured list

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the following transaction relative to the 2019 Major League roster:

Activated 3B JOSÉ RAMÍREZ from the 10-day Injured List.

Ramírez, 27, missed the last 26 games after suffering a broken hamate bone in his right hand on August 24 vs. Kansas City, undergoing surgery two days later in New York City. For the year he is batting .254 (120-for-473) with 33 doubles, 3 triples, 20 home runs and 75 RBI in 126 games. He has also stolen 24 bases in 28 attempts. José batted a combined .320 (57-for-178) in July and August with 19 2B, 15 HR and 45 RBI over 46 games (.354/.691/1.045) and at the time of the injury he was second in MLB in second-half extra-base hits (32), third in RBI (40) and tied for sixth in homers (13).

The current Major League roster stands at 36 players.

Additionally, 2B JASON KIPNIS underwent surgery this morning in New York City. Dr. Thomas Graham removed the hook of the hamate from Jason’s right hand in Manhattan’s NYU Langone Hospital. The expected return to Major League game activity from a fractured hamate removal is five-to-seven weeks.
