Indians and Padres complete trade

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the following transactions relative to the 2019 Major League roster:

Acquired RHP PHIL MATON (MAY-tahn) from the San Diego Padres in exchange for international bonus pool allotments. Option transferred to the AAA Columbus roster.

Recalled RHP CODY ANDERSON (right elbow surgery) and placed him on the 60-day Injured List

Maton, 26, has split the 2019 season between AAA El Paso and San Diego, spending four stints at the Major League level (7.71 ERA, 21ER/24.1IP). Around his stints with the Padres, he has posted a 2.89 ERA in 13 relief outings in AAA El Paso (18.2IP, 17H, 6ER, 6BB, 30SO). The Chatham, IL native was San Diego’s 20th round pick in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Louisiana Tech and has two remaining options. He owns a career Minor League ERA of 2.42 (141.1IP, 106H, 32ER, 33BB, 216SO) and possesses a 9.5 strikeout per 9.0 IP ratio (121SO/114.2IP) over his 112 Major League outings since debuting in 2017.
