Indians Recall Josh Smith; Option Hunter Wood to AAA Columbus

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the following transactions relative to the 2019 Major League roster:

Recalled LHP JOSH SMITH (#63) from AAA Columbus.

Optioned RHP HUNTER WOOD to AAA Columbus.

Smith, 29, has spent the majority of the 2019 season in Columbus, posting a 7-1 mark with 6 saves and a 2.76 ERA in 34 relief outings (45.2IP, 25H, 14ER, 22BB, 65SO, .156 avg, 12.8 SO/9.0IP). He has limited left-handed Triple-A hitters to a .161 (9-for-56) average against as batters are hitting just .087 (4-for-46) with runners in scoring positon and .107 (8-for-75) with runners on base. He is beginning his fourth stint with Cleveland, posting a 5.40 ERA in six relief outings (3ER/5.0IP). His last stint came, June 21-22.

Wood, 25, has made a pair of scoreless relief outings for Cleveland (3.0IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 3SO) since being acquired in a July 28 trade with Tampa Bay, appearing on Aug. 5 and Aug. 7 vs. Texas. He is a combined 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA overall across 21 games/2 starts in the Majors for the Indians and Rays this season (32.0IP, 28H, 11R-8ER, 4HR, 7BB, 27SO)
