Washington Nationals top prospects outfielder James Wood and third baseman Brady House have been selected to represent the organization in the 2023 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. Major League Baseball made the announcement Monday on MLB Network’s “MLB Tonight.” The 24th SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game features the top Minor League prospects competing as part of All-Star Saturday.
Wood, 20, is the No. 5 prospect in baseball according to Baseball America and the No. 6 prospect per MLBPipeline.com. He leads Washington’s Minor League system in home runs (12), RBI (52), slugging percentage (.536), OPS (T1st, .903), triples (6), extra-base hits (33) and total bases (128).
From April 25 to May 28, Wood posted a 30-game on-base streak, the longest active streak in all of Minor League Baseball at the time. He hit .299 with a .415 on-base percentage and a .626 slugging percentage during the streak.
In 66 games between High-A Wilmington and Double-A Harrisburg, Wood hit .272 with 15 doubles, six triples, 12 homers, 52 RBI, 37 walks, 13 stolen bases and 46 runs scored. He was promoted to Harrisburg on May 28. Wood capped his time with Wilmington going 9-for-19 (.474) with a double, triple, three home runs, seven RBI, four walks, two stolen bases and eight runs scored in his last five games before being promoted.
Wood earned South Atlantic League Player of the Week honors on May 15 after he recorded six extra-base hits (3 2B, 3B, HR), seven RBI and seven runs in seven games during the week. He went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a homer, two RBI, two walks and three runs scored against Brooklyn (NYM) in the final game of the week.
House, 20, is Washington’s No. 3 prospect, per Baseball America, and the organization’s No. 5 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com. He ranks in the top five in Washington’s Minor League system in OPS (3rd, .871), slugging percentage (4th, .512), batting average (4th, .297) and home runs (T6th, 8).
In 44 games between Single-A Fredericksburg and High-A Wilmington, House is hitting .297 with 11 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 30 RBI, 17 walks, six stolen bases and 29 runs scored. While with Fredericksburg, House posted on-base streaks of 16 and 14 games, as well as hitting streaks of 11 and eight games.
House was promoted to Wilmington on June 9, and since that date, he is 10-for-34 (.294) with three doubles, two homers, eight RBI, one walk, one stolen base and seven runs scored.
The 2023 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game will be played at 7:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 8, at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. Scheduled for seven innings, the game will air live on Peacock and SiriusXM.
