First baseman Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds has been chosen the National League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet, and outfielder George Springer of the Toronto Blue Jays has been named the American League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.

Votto, who was also named the NL Player of the Month for July, earned his sixth career NL Player of the Week Award, most recently winning in April 2018, and is the second Reds winner this season, following his teammate Wade Miley (May 10th). Springer claimed his third career weekly honor, most recently being honored in May 2019, and is Toronto’s second winner this season, following his All-Star teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (June 28th).

PLAY OF THE WEEK

Clutch Throw Home by Michael Conforto of the New York Mets

July 28__th vs. ATL – Watch It Here

Outfielder Michael Conforto of the New York Mets earned his second career Play of the Week Award, previously winning last year for the period ending September 13th. The last Mets player to win other than Conforto is his teammate J.D. Davis, who accomplished the feat last year on August 16th. With a runner on second in a game that the Mets were leading 2-1 in the top of the ninth inning, Conforto fielded a base hit before throwing out Abraham Almonte at home plate to protect the Mets’ one-run lead. Additional Play of the Week candidates included Conforto’s teammate Luis Guillorme’s leaping catch in shallow left field; Hunter Renfroe’s snag while reaching over the wall in foul territory; All-Star Bryan Reynolds’ jumping catch at the outfield wall; and rookie Jarred Kelenic’s diving catch and double play in left-center field.

Chevy Community MVPs of the Month

Meet the dedicated people who’ve kept our communities moving forward over the last year. They’re the real MVPs, or as we call them, Community MVPs. Each month, as MLB recognizes National and American League players for their exceptional on-field performances, Chevy will spotlight a Community MVP who’s stood out for continuously putting others’ needs before their own.

Roe Kilatchko from Houston, TX

A Texas A&M nursing Grad and 11-year hospital veteran, Roe Kilatchko has spent the last year working in the Houston Covid-19 ICU. Since March 2020, she has been pulling 18-hour shifts while doing her best to stay healthy so she can continue to help on the front lines of the pandemic. Roe has seen more than she will ever talk about while in the ICU but has never lost her joy for life.

Mitch Beller from Kansas City, MO

As a social worker at Children’s Mercy, Mitch Beller spends his days helping families in the community. Through the pandemic, he continued to help by providing resources to families, educating kids about the importance of mental health, and helping parents execute virtual school plans (in addition to supporting his own family through tumultuous times, including the unexpected death of his mother-in-law).
