Kevin Eschenfelder to be inducted into Media Wall of Honor

Astros to recognize Eschenfelder during the 2021 season

October 2nd, 2020

HOUSTON, TX - Longtime Houston broadcaster Kevin Eschenfelder has been voted in as the 2020 inductee into the Houston Baseball Media Wall of Honor. The Astros will recognize Eschenfelder at Minute Maid Park at a to be determined date during the 2021 season.

Each season, a current or former Houston media member is inducted into the Houston Baseball Media Wall of Honor for significant and lasting contributions to the landscape of Houston baseball through their work in journalism or broadcasting. This year, Eschenfelder was elected by the Houston media and will be inducted by the Astros in recognition of his long and impactful career in the industry.

Eschenfelder, a native Houstonian, just completed his 24th season as the Astros pre and postgame host for their television rightsholder, AT&T SportsNet Southwest. Now in his 30th year working in the Houston media market, Eschenfelder got his start in 1991 at Fox Sports Net, covering all three of Houston’s major professional sports teams. He began hosting the Astros and Rockets pre and postgame shows in 1997 for Fox Sports Southwest, before continuing in that role for FS Houston, Comcast SportsNet Houston and AT&T SportsNet SW.

In addition to his current pre and postgame duties for Astros games, Eschenfelder fills in on the Astros television broadcasts as a play-by-play announcer. A graduate of the University of Houston, Eschenfelder has been the radio voice of the University of Houston Football team since 2013.

Next season, the Astros will induct Eschenfelder in a pregame ceremony on the field and will present him with a duplicate of the plaque that will be added to the Houston Baseball Wall of Honor in the Milo Hamilton Press Box at Minute Maid Park. His plaque will join those of previous inductees Anita Martini (2007), Gene Elston (2008), Neil Hohlfeld (2009), Mickey Herskowitz (2010), Bill Brown (2011), Milo Hamilton (2012), René Cárdenas (2013), Alex Treviño (2014), Harry Shattuck (2015), Mark Berman (2016), Bob Allen (2017), Karen Warren (2018) and Larry Dierker (2019).
