In one week, Major League Baseball All-Star Week descends upon the entertainment capital of the world: Los Angeles, California. Before the T-Mobile Home Run Derby and Midsummer Classic take centerstage at Dodger Stadium, MLB, the Dodgers and Southern California will host thousands of local and visiting fans at All-Star events across the region. The heart of these fan events take place at L.A. Live, which will officially transform into MLB Live in DTLA sprawled over nearly 800,000 square feet. Five major All-Star events are happening over four days in Los Angeles’ entertainment hub: Capital One PLAY BALL PARK, MLB All-Star Block Party, the MLB Draft, All-Star Creator’s Cup and the All-Star Red Carpet Show presented by Mastercard. MLB Live in DTLA is where fans can see and interact with the 2022 MLB All-Stars, the next generation of baseball stars, Hall of Famers, Olympians, world-renowned artists and influencers, the latest video games, MLB trophies, Hall of Fame & Museum exhibits and more. Plus, more than anything, MLB Live in DTLA is where fans can PLAY the game in a multitude of settings. Below are more details on each event.
Capital One PLAY BALL PARK: Sat., July 16 – Tues., July 19 at Los Angeles Convention Center
On Saturday, July 16th, MLB Live in DTLA gets underway with Capital One PLAY BALL PARK – the world’s biggest and most playable baseball & softball festival – inside and outside the Los Angeles Convention Center. This fan-focused event blends together baseball, softball, music, food, technology and fashion with MLB celebrities ranging from Hall of Famers, All-Stars, Olympians, broadcasters and other legends of the game. Interactive games, clinics, exhibits, exclusive merchandise and autograph stations will be spread throughout the convention center, while other unique fan experiences are available outdoors on the Event Deck and along Chick Hearn Court. Tickets are now available for the indoor portion of PLAY BALL PARK at AllStarGame.com. Activities outside the convention center are free. Fans can also earn special prizes by utilizing the All-Star Experience Pass throughout PLAY BALL PARK.
MLB All-Star Block Party: Sat., July 16 – Tues., July 19 on Gilbert Lindsay Plaza
Also on tap from Saturday-Tuesday of All-Star Week is the MLB All-Star Block Party. Setting up shop in Gilbert Lindsay Plaza on the doorstep of the Los Angeles Convention Center, this free event plays host to additional interactive games, free giveaways, music, a beer garden and more.
2022 MLB Draft: Sunday, July 17 at 4p.m. PT on Xbox Plaza
The 2022 MLB Draft is the first event that will pop up in the heart of L.A. Live on Xbox Plaza in front of Microsoft Theater. Open for fans to attend in person for just the second time in the Draft’s history, the first two rounds are scheduled for Sunday night, July 17th, with Round One nationally televised on ESPN and the first 80 picks on MLB Network. Fans can catch their first glimpses of tomorrow’s MLB All-Stars as MLB Clubs draft players that will shape the future of their franchises. The 30 Clubs will be represented by former players and Club officials within a group that will feature Hall of Famers and former All-Stars.
All-Star Creator’s Cup: Monday, July 18 at 1 p.m. PT on Xbox Plaza
Another first for MLB All-Star Week is the All-Star Creator’s Cup. This fast-paced, fan-focused influencer video game tournament will feature 16 competitors playing MLB The Show 22 in front of a live audience. Inspired by the Pro-Am concept, eight participants are top MLB The Show players, while the other eight players are a group of the most popular influencers in online baseball culture. The tournament will also stream live on a number of digital platforms including the MLB YouTube page and San Diego Studios Twitch page. Hosted by Carrlyn Bathe and MLB Network’s Robert Flores, the full lineup of competitors will be announced next week.
All-Star Red Carpet Show presented by Mastercard: Tues., July 19 at 11 a.m. PT on Xbox Plaza
Rounding out MLB Live in DTLA will be the All-Star Red Carpet Show presented by Mastercard on Tuesday, July 19th where fans can see the 2022 MLB All-Stars and their families showcase their style on a classic Hollywood Red Carpet. Wrapping around from Xbox Plaza onto Chick Hearn Court, the 600-foot Red Carpet will lead players through a crowd of fans and media, with exclusive coverage on MLB Network for this 17th edition of the show. To provide a soundtrack for the players and live audience, world-renowned DJ M.O.S. will play the 90-minute show from his booth on the Red Carpet. Fans are encouraged to arrive early in order to secure the best sights of this year’s All-Stars and have a chance to bring home free giveaways from MLB mascots.
The T-Mobile Home Run Derby headlines Gatorade All-Star Workout Day on Monday, July 18th from Dodger Stadium. ESPN will exclusively televise the T-Mobile Home Run Derby, which will also be available on ESPN Radio and the ESPN App. Spanish-language radio coverage will be available on Univision Radio and the Uforia Audio App.
The MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard returns to Dodger Stadium for the first time in four decades on Tuesday, July 19th. The 2022 Midsummer Classic will join the All-Star Games of 1949, 1959 and 1980 as those hosted by the Dodgers franchise, with the latter two being played in the city of Los Angeles. The 92nd Midsummer Classic will mark the 13th to be played in the state of California, the most among any state. In addition to the games played in Los Angeles, the cities of Anaheim (1967, 1989, 2010), Oakland (1987), San Diego (1978, 1992, 2016) and San Francisco (1961, 1984, 2007) have also hosted Baseball’s annual summer showcase.
