Mariners reinstate outfielder Domingo Santana from 10-day injured list

Santana was placed on the IL (right elbow inflammation) on August 20 and missed 24 games

PITTSBURGH, PA. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has reinstated outfielder Domingo Santana from the 10-day Injured List.

Santana (#16) will be in uniform and available for today’s (4:05 pm PT) game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.

The Mariners active roster is now at 36 players.

Santana, 27, was placed on the 10-day Injured List with right elbow inflammation on August 20. On July 23 vs. Texas, he left the game with right elbow soreness and appeared exclusively at designated hitter beginning July 24. In 115 games with the Mariners, this season, he is batting .256 (113x441) with 63 runs scored, 20 doubles, 1 triple, 21 home runs, 69 RBI, 2 HBP, 49 walks, 8 stolen bases, a .332 on-base percentage and a .449 slugging percentage (.781 OPS). His 69 RBI are 2nd-most on the club (Daniel Vogelbach, 76).

Santana was acquired by the Mariners from the Milwaukee Brewers on December 21, 2018 in exchange for outfielder Ben Gamel and minor league right-hander Noah Zavolas. In parts of 6 Major League seasons with Houston (2014-15), Milwaukee (2015-18) and Seattle (2019-c), he is a career .260 (416x1600) hitter with 227 runs scored, 84 doubles, 2 triples, 75 home runs, 232 RBI, 195 walks, 30 stolen bases and a .800 OPS (.344 OBP, .446 SLG) in 486 career games. He was originally signed by Philadelphia as an international free agent in 2009 out of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He was traded to Houston in 2011 and made his MLB debut with the Astros in 2014, prior to being traded to Milwaukee in 2015.
