Mariners decline Wade LeBlanc's 2020 club option

Mariners 40-man roster is now at 34 players

SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that Mariners have declined LHP Wade LeBlanc’s club option for the 2020 season.

LeBlanc becomes a free agent and is eligible to sign with any team when free agency opens on November 4.

Following the conclusion of the World Series last night, RHP Félix Hernández, LHP Tommy Milone and RHP Arodys Vizcaíno also became free agents at 6:00 am PT this morning.

Seattle’s 40-man roster is now at 34 players.

LeBlanc, 35, went 6-7 with a 5.71 ERA (77 ER, 121.1 IP) with 92 strikeouts and 31 walks in 26 appearances (8 starts) with the Mariners last season. He made 8 starts and 13 appearances as a “follower” as part of the Mariners rotation before being moved to the bullpen on August 26. He was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a strained right oblique on April 14, and was reinstated from the IL on May 18 after missing 20 games. In 13 games (6 starts) prior to the All-Star Break, he went 5-2 with a 4.66 ERA (35 ER, 67.2 IP), but went 1-5 with a 7.04 ERA (42 ER, 53.2 IP) in 13 games (2 starts) after the break.

LeBlanc is a veteran of 11 Major League seasons with San Diego (2008-11), Miami (2012-13), Houston (2013), Los Angeles-AL (2014), New York-AL (2014), Pittsburgh (2016-17) and Seattle (2016 & 2018-19). He has a combined Major League record of 45-47 with 3 saves and a 4.46 ERA (426 ER, 860.0 IP) in 234 games (114 starts). In parts of 3 Major League seasons with Seattle, he went 18-12 with a 4.56 ERA (169 ER, 333.1 IP) with 80 walks and 263 strikeouts in 69 games (43 starts). His 333.1 innings pitched with Seattle are his most with any club.
