Mariners Reinstate Infielder Dee Gordon From 10-Day Injured List

Infielder/outfielder Ryan Court optioned to AAA Tacoma

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:

  • Dee Gordon, INF, reinstated from 10-day Injured List.
  • Ryan Court, INF/OF, optioned to AAA Tacoma.

Gordon, 31, was placed on the injured list on July 23 with a left quad strain and missed 14 games. In 77 games with the Mariners this season, he is batting .280 (74x264) with 26 runs, 8 doubles, 3 triples, 3 home runs, 27 RBI, 11 walks and 16 stolen bases. He was also on the IL from May 21 – June 10, including 3 games on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma. Despite missing 33 games on the Injured list this season, he is tied for 9th in the American League with 16 stolen bases. He recorded his 1,000th career hit on April 20 at Los Angeles-AL.

Gordon was acquired by the Mariners, along with international slot money, from Miami in exchange for Robert Dugger (rhp), Nick Neidert (rhp) and Christopher Torres (inf) on Dec. 7, 2017. In parts of 9 Major League seasons with Los Angeles-NL (2011-14), Miami (2015-17) and Seattle (2018-19), he is batting .288 (1051x3643) with 510 runs, 119 doubles, 51 triples, 18 home runs, 224 RBI, 156 walks and 324 stolen bases in 929 career games. He is 1 of 3 active players with at least 300 career stolen bases: Rajai Davis (415) and Jacoby Ellsbury (343). Gordon was originally selected by the Dodgers in the 4th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. He debuted with the Dodgers on June 6, 2011 at Philadelphia.

Court, 31, hit his first career Major League home run in last night’s game. He made his Major League debut on July 26 as a pinch hitter in the 9th inning and went 0x1 with a lineout to left field. He picked up his first career hit in his first career start on July 27 vs. Detroit. In 8 games for the Mariners this season, he hit .235 (4x18) with 1 run, 1 double, 1 home run, 5 RBI, and 1 walk. He was released by the Cubs earlier this season on March 23. After appearing in 8 games with Sugar Land of the independent Atlantic League, he signed a minor league contract with the Mariners on May 6. Prior to being selected from Triple-A Tacoma on July 26, he hit .279 (36x129) with 28 runs scored, 8 doubles, 2 triples, 9 home runs 37 RBI and 21 walks in 37 games with the Rainiers this season.

Court was originally selected by Arizona in the 23rd round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Illinois State University. He spent the first 4 seasons of his professional career in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, before being released on March 30, 2015. He spent the 2015 season with the Sioux City Explorers of the independent American Association. He signed with Boston as a minor league free agent on May 2, 2016. He spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons in the Red Sox organization, splitting time between Triple-A Pawtucket and Double-A Portland. He signed a minor league contract with Chicago-NL on Dec. 19, 2017. He spent the 2018 season with Triple-A Iowa, and was named PCL player of the week for the period of July 16-22. In parts of 8 minor league seasons with Arizona (2011-14), Boston (2016-17), Chicago-NL (2018) and Seattle (2019), Court is batting .275 (733x2667) with 405 runs scored, 270 doubles, 21 triples, 67 home runs, 382 RBI, 41 stolen bases and 354 walks in 770 career games.
