Angels sign LHP Matt Moore

ANAHEIM – The Angels today agreed to a one-year, $9 million contract with LHP Matt Moore. In a corresponding 40-man roster move, INF Trey Cabbage has been designated for assignment.

Moore, 34, spent the majority of the 2023 season with the Angels, apearing in 41 games and posting a 2.66 ERA (44 IP – 13 ER) and 49 strikeouts before being claimed on waivers by Cleveland on Aug. 31. He held opponents scoreless in 31 of 41 outings for the Angels and pitched to a 1.19 ERA (37.2 IP – 5 ER) from April 10 – Aug. 19. Moore finished with the season with five appearances for the Guardians and four outings with Miami.

A native of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Moore was originally selected by Tampa Bay in the eighth round of the 2007 Draft and made his Major League debut with the Rays in 2011. He was an A.L. All-Star in 2013 and has totaled 318 career games (164 starts) across parts of 12 MLB seasons with the Rays (2011-16), Giants (2016-17), Rangers (2018, 2022), Tigers (2019), Phillies (2021), Angels (2023), Guardians (2023) and Marlins (2023). In 2020, Moore made 13 starts for the NPB Pacific League Champion Fukuoka Softbank Hawks.
