Mets sign free agent RHP Brad Brach
FLUSHING, N.Y., August 8, 2019 – The New York Mets today announced that the club has signed free agent RHP Brad Brach. In order to make room on the 25-man roster, the Mets optioned LHP Donnie Hart to Syracuse (AAA) of the International League. In addition, the Mets transferred outfielder Brandon Nimmo to the 60-Day Injured List.
Brach, 33, a former All-Star, has posted a 3.32 career ERA with 33 saves over nine major league seasons with the Padres, Orioles, Braves and Cubs.
The 6-6, 215-pound native of Freehold, NJ has pitched in 311 games since 2015, the ninth-most in the majors.
He had 45 strikeouts in 39.2 innings, going 4-3 in 42 games with the Cubs this season. He has racked up 527 strikeouts in 495.2 career innings. Brach has pitched in the postseason in 2014 and 2016 with Baltimore and last year with Atlanta.
Brach was drafted in 2008 by the Padres out of Monmouth University (NJ) was an All-Star in 2016 with the Orioles when he 10-4 with a 2.05 ERA. He posted a 1.52 ERA in 27 games for Atlanta last year after he was acquired on July 30.
