MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced details for the club’s Juneteenth Week of Reflection and Service (June 19-27), including numerous community activities on Juneteenth and culminating with the annual South Florida Black History Celebration at loanDepot park on June 27. The week of reflection, service and celebration promotes the organization’s efforts for racial equality and raises funds to help further the development of the community’s future leaders.

The week begins with the following community activities on Juneteenth Service Day – Saturday, June 19, each in the space of wellness or empowerment:

• Beautification project, and tree and plant giveaway at Historic Hampton House in partnership with Million Trees Miami, Verizon and Arbor Day Foundation.

o Volunteers from the Marlins and Verizon, in partnership with Million Trees Miami and Arbor Day Foundation will also distribute 500 trees at the Historic Hampton House, beginning at 9 a.m. until supplies last.

o Marlins Alumnus Cliff Floyd will be joined by volunteers from the Marlins front office and the group will wash windows, tend to landscaping, and paint entry gates and fences at the historical location in the Brownsville community.

• Beautification project, and drive-thru food distribution in partnership with J.P. Morgan at Gwen Cherry Park

o The Marlins and Verizon will host a drive-thru food distribution at Gwen Cherry Park, providing 500 local families will boxes of food, beginning at 9 a.m.

o Marlins Alumnus Charles Johnson will be joined by volunteers from the Marlins and Verizon are joining together to pain classrooms, mulch the grounds, and clean up trash around the park.

• Hydroponic Educational Experience at Red Rooster Overtown

o Teens from local community centers will visit Red Rooster Overtown and learn about the hydroponic garden at the restaurant as well as sample a dish prepared with ingredients from the garden.

• Beautification project at Achievement Center

o Players from the Marlins Minor League system will be building a new playhouse and beautifying the kids playground at the Achievement Center in Delray Beach, Florida.

The Marlins’ community efforts will continue on Monday, June 21 when volunteers from the Marlins will prepare more than 500 hygiene kits filled with an assortment of self-care items for the Miami Rescue Mission to distribute to those in need.

Fans can join the Marlins efforts by participating in the Empowering Education through Art Auction, which will benefit a scholarship endowment from the Miami Marlins Foundation at FIU for first-generation students from the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project. The Miami Marlins Foundation has partnered with local artists to donate their time and collaborate on artwork with the theme of social justice. The Juneteenth Week of Reflection and Service culminates with South Florida Black History Celebration presented by J.P. Morgan at loanDepot park on Sunday, June 27. Fans can purchase a special ticket package for the day that includes a donation to charitable organizations in Miami’s black community and an exclusive South Florida Black History commemorative Marlins cap.
