Investment in International Scouting and Player Development Remains Top Priority for Club

January 18th, 2024

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers proudly celebrate the opening of its new Dominican Republic Academy in Santo Domingo Este today. The facility, which sits on more than 30 acres, marks a significant investment in the community and a commitment by the Brewers to develop the best talent throughout Latin America.

Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader joined Brewers Chairman and Principal Owner Mark Attanasio, SVP and General Manager Matt Arnold, Manager Pat Murphy, several members of the Brewers coaching staff, current and former Brewers players, representatives of Major League Baseball and local and national Dominican government leaders to officially cut the ribbon on the new facility.

“We are excited to celebrate the opening of our new Dominican Republic Academy, a significant investment in our commitment to international scouting and player development, particularly in Latin America,” said Brewers Principal Owner Mark Attanasio. “Developing young talent – across the organization and at all levels – is a top priority for us as we work toward our ultimate goal of winning a World Series. The establishment of this new state-of-the-art Academy is a major step for the organization in those efforts, and we thank our local partners for their work in making this a reality.”

The new facility accommodates approximately 100 players and features three full fields, an infield, an agility field and a four-tunnel indoor batting facility as well as classrooms and meeting areas for both baseball and educational growth. The Academy is owned by the Brewers and provides an enhanced resource for young players who are beginning their professional careers and preparing for life beyond the playing field.

The Brewers have made significant financial investments and commitment in time, staff and support to ensure the complex system of player development continues to feed the Milwaukee Brewers pipeline of talent. This strategic approach has resulted in the Brewers farm system currently ranked No. 2 overall by Baseball America and No. 3 by MLB Pipeline. Over the past decade, ownership has dedicated significant financial resources to the renovation of American Family Fields of Phoenix, building a proposed new facility for the Class A Carolina Mudcats (owned by the Brewers) in Wilson, North Carolina and most recently a commitment to ensure a generational lease extension through 2050 at American Family Field in Milwaukee.

Commitment to education is a cornerstone pledge of the Milwaukee Brewers and its charitable arm, Brewers Community Foundation. The Club has dedicated staff who focus solely on the education of players in both the Dominican Academy and at American Family Fields of Phoenix to help players complete high school. In addition, classes that focus on leadership development, critical thinking, English and communications are also provided, with MLB offering further courses and workshops to all players.

Along with the grand opening, the Milwaukee Brewers presented a check for $10,000 to Educational District 10-07 to support seven area schools with approximately 2,000 children by providing needed school and sports equipment, in addition to air conditioning, generators and water coolers.

The Brewers roots in the Dominican Republic can be traced to the early 1970s. In the decades since, the Brewers presence has increased, moving from rented facilities before committing to the substantially larger and modern new facility now completed.
