MLB and MLBPA announce weekly COVID testing results

Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association jointly announced today the latest COVID-19 testing results conducted under MLB’s COVID-19 Health Monitoring & Testing Plan. The independent Utah laboratory has reported the following results during the past week:

Weekly Monitoring Testing:

  • 11,547 tests conducted, with 4 new positive tests (2 Major League players and 2 Alternate Site players); a 0.03% positive rate.

Total Monitoring Testing To Date:

  • 135,317 tests conducted, with 43 total positive tests (27 players, 16 staff members); a 0.03% positive rate. Twenty (20) different Clubs have had a Covered Individual test positive during Monitoring Testing.

In addition, MLB and the MLBPA announced today that four Clubs have reached the threshold of 85% or more of their Tier 1 Individuals being considered fully vaccinated, which (in consultation with medical experts) will allow for the relaxation of certain health and safety protocols for their Tier 1 Individuals. An additional five Clubs have reached the threshold of 85% or more of their Tier 1 Individuals having received their final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and the relaxed protocols will apply to their Tier 1 Individuals within the next two weeks once they are considered fully vaccinated.  As of today, over 81% of all Tier 1 Individuals are considered partially or fully vaccinated.
