First baseman Jared Walsh of the Los Angeles Angels has been voted the American League Rookie of the Month for September, and third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes of the Pittsburgh Pirates has been voted the National League Rookie of the Month for September. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.

Walsh earned his first career monthly award and is the first Angels player to take home rookie honors since his teammate Shohei Ohtani, who won a pair of awards during his Rookie of the Year-winning 2018 campaign. Hayes, the son of longtime Major Leaguer Charlie Hayes, was also awarded his first monthly award and became the first Pirate to earn NL Rookie of the Month honors since Austin Meadows in May 2018.
