The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde from Double-A Harrisburg and placed right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer on the 10-Day Injured List (retroactive to July 26) with a mild rhomboid strain. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Fedde, 26, is 1-1 with a 3.40 ERA in 13 games (eight starts) for Washington in 2019. His last start came on June 24 vs. Colorado when he allowed one earned run on three hits in 4.0 innings of work as the Nationals topped the Rockies, 3-2.

In seven games (six starts) between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Fresno, Fedde is 3-1 with a 5.45 ERA, 37 strikeouts and nine walks.

Scherzer, 35, is 9-5 with a 2.41 ERA in 20 starts in 2019. He ranks at, or near the top of the National League in many categories, including strikeouts (1st, 189), strikeouts per nine innings (1st, 12.66), ERA (2nd, 2.41), strikeout-to-walk ratio (2nd, 7.56) and walks and hits per innings pitched (3rd, 0.99).
