PEORIA, Ariz. – The San Diego Padres have acquired outfielder/first baseman Matt Beaty from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for right-handed pitcher River Ryan, President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A.J. Preller announced today. To make room on the 40-man roster, the club placed left-hander Drew Pomeranz on the 60-day Injured List.

Beaty (BAY-tee), 28, has posted a .262/.333/.425 slash line in 556 Major League plate appearances, along with 24 doubles, two triples, 18 home runs, 91 RBI and 79 runs scored. The 6-0, 215-pound left-handed hitter has made 69 appearances (45 starts) at first base, 64 appearances (46 starts) in left field, 22 appearances (nine starts) in right field and 14 appearances (seven starts) at third base. He appeared in 15 Postseason games for the Dodgers from 2019-21, compiling a .211 (4-for-19) average, collecting one hit in three of his first four playoff games in the 2019 NLDS vs. the Washington Nationals. In 385 career minor league games, he has batted .310/.370/.447 with 91 doubles, four triples, 34 home runs, 222 RBI and 204 runs scored. He was named 2017 Texas League Player of the Year with Double-A Tulsa, after leading the league in batting average (.326, T-1st), OPS (.883) and doubles (31, T-1st). He was originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 48th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft but did not sign, before being drafted by the Dodgers in the 12th round of the 2015 Draft out of Belmont University.

The Snellville, Ga. native made his second consecutive Opening Day roster for the Dodgers in 2021, owning a .270/.363/.402 line with four doubles, one triple and seven home runs. He also hit .357/.486/.464 in 35 plate appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Beaty was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Wednesday, March 23.
