PADRES ACQUIRE OF DREW CAMPBELL FROM BRAVES

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres have acquired outfielder Drew Campbell from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for designated hitter/infielder Matt Carpenter, left-handed pitcher Ray Kerr and cash considerations, President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A.J. Preller announced today.

Cambell, 26, batted .254 (69-for-272) in 2023 for Double-A Mississippi in the Southern League, posting a .307 on-base percentage and .404 slugging percentage with 14 doubles, nine home runs, 30 RBI, and 14 walks in 78 games played. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound left-handed hitter played 39 games in right field, 21 games in left field, and 15 games in center, and he made three appearances as a designated hitter. In the 2022 season for Single-A Rome, his .271 (100-for-369) average ranked as the third-highest clip in the Braves’ minor league organization. The native of Jeffersonville, Ind. has a career .264 (225-for-852) average with 35 doubles, eight triples, 22 home runs, 107 RBI, a .319 OBP, and a .401 SLG in 230 minor league games. Campbell was originally signed by the Braves as a 23rd-round selection in the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Louisville (Ky.).
