SAN DIEGO – The Padres Holiday Giving Tour presented by Gallagher continues Tuesday, December 5 as members of the organization will participate in a surprise bike distribution in conjunction with Bikes for Kids Foundation and the team’s Going to Bat for San Diego partnership with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E). Padres player Manny Machado, Padres CEO Erik Greupner, Padres Foundation President Tom Seidler and broadcaster Mark Grant will be joined by Pad Squad and the Swingin’ Friar as they surprise over 120 third grade students during an assembly at Porter Elementary School (North Campus) with new bikes and helmets.
The Padres and SDG&E are providing the bikes through the Bikes for Kids Foundation for students in underserved areas through a bike reward program utilizing character-building books and required essays. Bill and Debbie Pollakov, co-founders of Bikes for Kids Foundation, will be on site to assist with the surprise. Officials from SDG&E as well as educators and student recipients from Porter Elementary School will also be available to local media, though the students will be unaware of the event until the surprise takes place on Tuesday.
The Padres Holiday Giving tour presented by Gallagher began on Monday, November 20, and will continue throughout the month of December as the Padres support various organizations and have a presence at a number of different community events throughout San Diego County. Padres coaches, alumni, executives, staff and broadcasters, along with Pad Squad, the Swingin’ Friar and the Padres Volunteer Team will participate in various events to help spread holiday cheer and give back to the community.
