Phillies announce Spring Training non-roster invitees

The Phillies have signed the following four players to minor league contracts with invitations to attend major league spring training as non-roster invitees:

  • Phil Gosselin, INF – The 31-year-old Gosselin played in 44 games for the Phillies in 2019, ranking sixth in the majors in hits (10) and tied for sixth in batting average (.313) as a pinch-hitter. He led Philadelphia in both categories. In 78 games with triple-A Lehigh Valley, he slashed .314/.405/.497 with 20 doubles, five triples, eight home runs, 47 RBI and 46 walks. A native of Bryn Mawr, Pa., and a graduate of Malvern Prep, Gosselin was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the fifth round of the June 2010 draft, and has spent time in the majors with the Braves (2013-15), Arizona Diamondbacks (2015-16), Pittsburgh Pirates (2017), Texas Rangers (2017), Cincinnati Reds (2018) and Phillies (2019).
  • Josh Harrison, INF – Harrison, 32, batted .175 with nine extra-base hits, 10 runs scored and four steals in 36 games with the Detroit Tigers last season. A two-time All-Star, Harrison has played six different positions in 878 career games during nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2011-18) and Detroit (2019), slashing .273/.313/.401. He was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the sixth round of the June 2008 draft before being traded to Pittsburgh the following year.
  • Mikie Mahtook, OF – Mahtook, 30, spent a majority of the 2019 season with triple-A Toledo in Detroit’s system, where he slashed .260/.357/.492 with 39 extra-base hits (17 2B, 3B, 21 HR), 56 RBI, 14 stolen bases and 51 walks in 98 games and was named an MiLB.com Organization All-Star. In parts of five major league seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays (2015-16) and Detroit Tigers (2017-19), he has batted .235 with 33 doubles, 33 home runs, 14 stolen bases and 59 walks. Mahtook, the 31st-overall selection by the Tampa Bay in the June 2011 draft, was born in Louisiana and attended Louisiana State University.
  • Matt Szczur, OF – A native of Cape May, N.J., Szczur batted .322 with 12 doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 28 RBI and a .967 OPS in 44 games for triple-A Reno in 2019. He has played in more than 50 career games at each outfield position during his five major league seasons with the Chicago Cubs (2014-17) and San Diego Padres (2017-18), making only one error in 1,188.2 innings. The 30-year-old was selected by Chicago in the fifth round of the June 2010 draft out of Villanova University.
