The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed catcher Tyler Heineman off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Heineman has spent a majority of this season with Toronto, where he hit .267 (4-for-15) with two doubles and an RBI in 10 games. Heineman began the 2022 campaign with Triple-A Buffalo after being signed by Toronto as a minor league free agent on March 13.

The 30-year-old Heineman has thrown out 35 percent (7-for-20) of the runners attempting to steal against him in his big league career, including five in 15 games as a member of the Giants during the 2020 season.

Heineman has recorded a .221 average (15-for-68) with four doubles, a home run and four RBI in 30 career games in the big leagues with Miami (2019), San Francisco (2020) and Toronto (2022).

Catcher Andrew Knapp has been designated for assignment to make room for Heineman on the 40-man roster. Heineman will wear uniform #54 when he joins the team.
