The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed left-handed pitcher Sam Howard off waivers from Colorado.
The 26-year-old Howard spent a majority of the 2019 season with Albuquerque (Rockies’ AAA), where he went 4-1 with a 3.91 ERA (50.2ip/22er) and 62 strikeouts in 42 relief appearances. He also went 2-0 with a 6.63 ERA (19.0ip/14er) in 20 relief appearances over two stints with the Rockies.
Howard was originally selected by Colorado in the third round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. He made his big league debut in 2018, where he posted a 2.25 ERA (4.0ip/1er) in four relief appearances over three separate stints with the Rockies.
