Pirates and PNC Bank announce small business initiative for 2021

Effort will Support Six North Side Small Businesses Throughout the 2021 Campaign

May 4th, 2021

The Pittsburgh Pirates, together with PNC Bank, announced a season-long campaign designed to assist local small businesses impacted by COVID-19. This marks the second straight season the Pirates and PNC are teaming up to focus on creating opportunities for area businesses.

The Pirates will use the team’s unique public platform to call attention to these businesses and non-profits through traditional advertising as well as in-park promotions and more. The Pirates and Pirates Charities relied on guidance from Pittsburgh’s North Side Chamber of Commerce, the African American Chamber of Commerce and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to select the six small businesses to highlight.

The campaign will feature a different small business each month during the season, and during their scheduled promotional period the local groups will receive several in-game assets as well as social and online promotions. Assets include in-broadcast drop-ins by Pirates broadcasters; free 30-second television and radio commercials produced by the Pirates; social media sponsorship with logo inclusion on graphics; in-park signage; and more. Additionally, each business will receive a grant during a pregame check presentation at PNC Park.

The local small businesses to be recognized include:

1. Concrete Rose Construction
2. Kabeyia and Kompany
3. Bistro To Go
4. Happy Day Desert Factory
5. Children’s Language Immersion Program
6. Casa Brasil

“Support of the Pittsburgh community and those who need us the most, has been a primary focus for us throughout the past year, and we are looking at ways to continue these efforts even as we emerge from the pandemic,” said Pirates President Travis Williams. “Though a sense of normalcy seems to be returning to certain aspects of our lives, there are still struggles throughout our community. PNC has remained an incredible supporter, and we are proud to join with them in this initiative and continue to support our hometown’s growth and prosperity.”

Earlier this month, representatives from the Pirates and PNC Bank, including Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting and Lou Cestello, head of Regional Markets and regional president for PNC in Pittsburgh, contacted the local businesses to share the news and pledge support through the special program.
