The Pittsburgh Pirates today placed right-handed pitcher Richard Rodríguez on the paternity list.

Right-handed pitcher Parker Markel (pronounced mar-KELL) has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis. Markel was claimed off waivers by the Pirates from Seattle on July 27. He has gone 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 3.0 innings in two relief appearances with Indianapolis since being claimed off waivers.

Markel made five relief appearances this season with the Mariners. He has also gone a combined 5-0 with nine saves, 1.88 ERA (38.1ip/8er), 67 strikeouts and .118 batting average against in 29 relief appearances this season between Double-A Arkansas, Triple-A Tacoma and Indianapolis.

He will wear uniform #49.
