The Pirates have recalled outfielder Jared Oliva (pronounced “Olive-ah”) and have placed outfielder Jason Martin on the 10-day injured list with an upper back strain.

Oliva had been in the club’s alternate training site in Altoona since the start of the season.

The 24-year-old Oliva has no Major League experience and will wear uniform #76.  He hit .277 with 24 doubles, six triples, six homers, 42 RBI and 36 stolen bases in 123 games with Double-A Altoona last season and was selected to the Eastern League post-season All-Star team. 

Oliva also played in the 2019 Arizona Fall League and was named to the Rising Stars Team after leading the league in doubles (11), extra-base hits (13) and stolen bases (11).

To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Yacksel Rios has been transferred to the 45-day injured list.
