The Pittsburgh Pirates have selected the following two players to their 40-man roster:

Rodolfo Castro (INF) - The 21-year-old Castro was a member of Pittsburgh's alternate training site this past season in Altoona. In 2019, the switch-hitting infielder recorded a total of 73 RBI between Greensboro and Bradenton, which ranked fourth among all Pirates minor leaguers. Castro, who is currently rated as Pittsburgh's 26th-best prospect according to MLBPipeline, was signed by the Pirates as a non-drafted free agent on October 30, 2015. He was named an All-Star three times in his first four seasons of professional baseball, receiving midseason accolades in the Dominican Summer League in 2016, the Gulf Coast League post-season team in 2017, and a South Atlantic League mid-season All-Star in 2019.

Max Kranick (RHP) - The 23-year-old Kranick has gone 12-14 with a 3.34 ERA (245.0ip/91er) and 194 strikeouts in 51 appearances (47 starts) during his minor league career since being selected by the Pirates in the 11th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft. Kranick, who was a member of the club's alternate training site roster in Altoona this past season, is currently rated as Pittsburgh's 24th-best prospect according to MLBPipeline.

To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Trevor Williams and INF/OF José Osuna have been designated for assignment.

The 40-man roster is currently at 40 players and consists of 23 pitchers, two catchers, 10 infielders and five outfielders.
