The Pittsburgh Pirates today agreed to terms on a contract with left-handed pitcher Tyler Anderson for the 2021 season. The announcement was made by General Manager Ben Cherington.

The 31-year-old Anderson went 4-3 with a 4.27 ERA (59.2ip/29er) in 13 games (11 starts) with San Francisco during the 2020 season, posting a 3-0 record and a 2.75 ERA (19.2ip/6er) in his last four starts. He tossed his first career complete game on 8/22; a three-hit, 5-1 victory vs. Arizona. Anderson finished second on the Giants staff in wins (four) and starts (11) last season.

Anderson recorded four starts without allowing an earned run in 2020. He was one of just five pitchers in MLB to record four our more games of at least 5.0 innings pitched and no earned runs allowed along with Cleveland’s Shane Bieber (six), Kansas City’s Brad Keller (five) Milwaukee’s Corbin Burnes (four) and St. Louis’ Kwang Hyun Kim (four).

Anderson was selected 20th overall by Colorado in the first round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft before making his big league debut with the Rockies in 2016. In 86 Major League games (82 starts) with Colorado (2016-19) and San Francisco (2020), Anderson has gone 22-27 with a 4.65 ERA (456.2ip/236er).

To make room for Anderson on the 40-man roster, RHP Jose Soriano has been placed on the 60-day injured list.
