The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed left-handed pitcher Josh Fleming to a one-year contract for the 2024 season.

The 27-year-old Fleming went 2-0 with a 4.70 ERA (51.2ip/27er) in 12 appearances (three starts) for Tampa Bay in 2023.

Fleming recorded a 3.35 ERA (37.2ip/14er) in nine relief appearances while his 60.8 ground ball rate in 2023 was the highest by a Rays pitcher with at least 50.0 innings pitched in a single season.

Tampa Bay originally selected Fleming in the fifth round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of Webster (MO) University where he became the first player drafted in the program’s history.

Fleming went 5-0 with a 2.78 ERA (32.1ip/10er) in seven appearances (five starts) during his rookie season with the Rays in 2020. In 2021, the lefthander tied Shane McClanahan for the team lead with 10 wins while being used as a starter and bulk reliever during his first stint of the season.

Fleming has posted an 11-5 record and 3.73 ERA (115.2ip/48er) in 33 appearances in the big leagues as a reliever while going 8-8 with a 6.10 ERA (107.2ip/73er) in 22 starts.
