Pirates statement on Dave Klasnick

August 21st, 2019

The entire Pirates organization mourns the loss of our dear friend Dave Klasnick. Dave loved the Pirates and supported the Club and Pirates Charities with his time, treasure and unmatched energy. Dave was extremely proud of the fact that he was one of the very first season ticket holders at PNC Park, having cornered Kevin McClatchy at the groundbreaking ceremony in 1999 and convinced him to sell Dave seats in the new Home Plate Club. Dave understood the game of baseball and passed on his love of the game to scores of kids in our region during his many years coaching youth baseball. While modest to the core, Dave was proud that he had the opportunity to coach future Major League players Sean Casey and Kevin Orie. All of Dave’s young players learned the importance of respect for the game, your teammates and your opponents.

Dave was a close friend who constantly reminded me of the remarkable power of a positive attitude, a strong motor and a good soul. He was a special person who will be missed by all of us at the Pirates. Our prayers go out to Nancy, David, Rob and all of Dave’s family and many friends.
