November 24th, 2021

BOSTON, MA—Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers has earned a 2021 All-MLB Second Team selection. The All-MLB teams were determined by a combination of voting from fans and a decorated panel of media members, broadcasters, former players, and other officials throughout the game.

Devers, 25, was voted the American League’s starting third baseman for the 2021 All-Star Game, his first career appearance in the Midsummer Classic. He finished the season leading major league third basemen in home runs (38), RBI (113), extra-base hits (76), and slugging percentage (.538), also ranking second in runs scored (101), hits (165), and doubles (37). Devers set career highs in homers and walks (62) while batting .279 (165-for-591) with an .890 OPS, as he earned his first career Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Award at third base.

In 2021, Devers led the Red Sox in games played (156), home runs, RBI, runs scored, hits, total bases (318), slugging percentage, and OPS. In the club’s final game of the regular season, he went 4-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored, breaking a 5-5 tie in the ninth inning with a two-run homer that gave Boston a 7-5 victory over the Washington Nationals. In 11 Postseason games, Devers hit .295 (13-for-44) with five home runs, 12 RBI, and a 1.029 OPS.

Devers is the only major leaguer to record at least 100 RBI and 100 runs scored in each of the last two 162-game seasons (2019, ’21). He joined Hall of Famer Ted Williams as the only Red Sox to record at least 30 home runs and 100 RBI in multiple seasons before turning 25 years old. In 548 career regular season games, Devers has hit .279 (598-for-2,142) with 112 home runs, 367 RBI, and an .847 OPS.
