Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Art Warren from the Seattle Mariners on a waiver claim.

Warren, 27, spent the bulk of the abbreviated 2020 season at the Mariners' Alternate Training Site in Tacoma, and did not pitch for Seattle in his one day on the active Major League roster. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound right-hander had a one-day stint with the Mariners on August 18, but he did not appear in that night’s game at Los Angeles-NL. Prior to the March shutdown of Spring Training, Warren appeared in 2 Cactus League games (1.0 IP, 2 BB, 2 SO) before he was optioned to Tacoma (AAA) on March 6. He pitched 3.0 scoreless innings for the Mariners over 3 Summer Camp appearances.

Warren saw his only MLB action with the Mariners in 2019, posting 5.1 scoreless innings across 6 relief outings as a September call-up that year. He made his Major League debut on September 12, 2019 vs. Cincinnati (0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB), and retired 12 of 13 batters faced spanning 4 games/4.0 scoreless innings from September 20-27, 2019.

The Western Ohio native was rated as the Mariners' no. 27 prospect by MLB.com prior to the 2020 campaign. He was originally selected by Seattle in the 23rd round of the 2015 June draft out of Ashland (OH) University.

With the addition of Warren, the Rangers now have 39 players on the club’s Major League roster.
