Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has acquired catcher Aramis (uh-RAH-mis) Garcia from the San Francisco Giants on a waiver claim.

Garcia, 27, was designated for assignment by San Francisco on November 20 after missing the entire 2020 season while recovering from surgery on his right hip labrum. He was placed on the 60-day injured list on March 10 following the procedure, which was performed in late February. Garcia spent the majority of the 2020 season undergoing rehab followed by baseball activities at San Francisco’s minor league complex in Scottsdale, AZ. He is expected to be fully ready for the start of spring training.

The right-handed batter owns a career .229 batting average with 6 home runs and 14 RBI in 37 games with the Giants in 2018-19, starting 29 of those contests at catcher (15 GS) and first base (14 GS). Born in Hialeah, FL, He has appeared in 460 minor league games over the first 6 seasons of his professional career, all spent in the Giants organization, slashing .258/.322/.430/.751 with 63 home runs and 270 RBI. Born in Hialeah, FL, Garcia originally signed with San Francisco after being selected in the second round of the 2014 June draft out of Florida International University.

With the addition of Garcia, the Rangers now have 39 players on the club’s Major League roster.
