September 27th, 2023

Anaheim, Calif. — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has activated right-handed pitcher Josh Sborz from the 15-day Injured List and optioned left-handed pitcher Jake Latz to Triple-A Round Rock.

Sborz was on the 15-day Injured List from September 5-26 with a right hamstring strain.  He has a 5-7 record with a 5.80 ERA (32 ER/49.2 IP) over 42 relief appearances with the Rangers this season, last pitching for Texas on September 4 vs. Houston.  He made one appearance with Round Rock (AAA) on injury rehabilitation assignment, a scoreless inning September 16 vs. Las Vegas (1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 SO, 18 pitches/14 strikes).  Sborz also pitched multiple live batting practice sessions during last week’s homestand in Arlington.  This was Sborz’s third Injured List stint in 2023, the others Opening Day-April 13 (left ankle sprain) and July 12-26 (right biceps tendinitis).

Latz pitched 4.1 scoreless innings over 2 relief outings for Texas after having his contract selected from Round Rock on September 16.  It was his second Major League stint, as he made one appearance for the Rangers in 2021.  Latz has spent the balance of the season with Round Rock, posting a 1-4 record with a 4.10 ERA (29 ER/63.2 IP) across 46 games/5 starts.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with five players (Jacob deGrom, Ian Kennedy Brett Martin, Brad Miller, Jake Odorizzi) on the 60-day Injured List.
