September 12th, 2022

Miam**i, Fla.** — The Texas Rangers today announced between doubleheader games that the club has activated right-handed pitcher Jon Gray from the 15-day Injured List. To make room for Gray on the active roster, the club has optioned right-handed pitcher Tyson Miller to Triple-A Round Rock.

Gray is scheduled to start Game 2 of today’s doubleheader in Miami at 6:10 p.m. CT/7:10 p.m. ET, which will mark his first appearance since exiting early due to injury on Aug. 1 vs. Baltimore (L, 1.1 IP, 4 R-ER). The right-hander was placed on the 15-day Injured List on Aug. 2 with a left oblique strain, his third Injured List stint of the season: also April 9-18 (right middle finger blister) and April 20-May 2 (left knee sprain).

Gray has gone 7-6 with a 3.83 ERA (44 ER/103.1 IP) and 116 strikeouts over 19 starts this season, his first with the Rangers after signing a four-year free agent contract on Dec. 1, 2021. He is averaging career-high 10.1 strikeouts per 9 innings, a rate that ranks eighth in the American League (min. 100 IP).

Miller’s contract was selected from Round Rock on Sunday, but he did not appear in either Rangers game while he was on the roster.  He has allowed 7 runs-6 earned runs in 3.0 innings over 2 games/one start spanning two stints with Texas this season: June 10-15 and September 11-12.  He has spent the balance of the season at Round Rock, going 4-7 with a 4.73 ERA over 27 games/15 starts with the Express.
