Rangers activate Shawn Kelley from injured list, option LHP Locke St. John to Nashville

Kelley will be active for today’s doubleheader against Cleveland

Cleveland, Ohio — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has activated right-handed pitcher Shawn Kelley from the 10-day injured list and optioned left-handed pitcher Locke St. John to Triple-A Nashville. Kelley will be active for today’s doubleheader in Cleveland beginning at 12:10 p.m. CT.

Kelley was on the injured list from July 22-August 6 with right biceps muscle soreness. The right-hander suffered the injury after entering the game in the 8th inning on July 21 in Houston and departed the contest after throwing several warmup pitches. He threw live batting practice on Monday in Nashville and reported no issues. Kelley has gone 5-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 32 relief appearances this season. His career-high 11 saves are most among Rangers pitchers.

St. John has no record and a 6.35 ERA in 6 relief appearances spanning two stints with Texas this season: June 20-July 5 and July 21-August 6. The left-hander has spent the balance of this season with Nashville and Double-A Frisco, combining to go 4-4 with a 3.16 ERA in 33 relief outings.

Following these transactions, the Rangers have 39 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with seven players on the 60-day injured list: LHP Jesse Biddle, RHP Luke Farrell, LHP Taylor Hearn, RHP Nate Jones, LHP Yohander Méndez, LHP Jeffrey Springs, and RHP Edinson Vólquez.
